'X-Men: Apocalypse' news, updates, rumors: Will it be R-rated like 'Deadpool'?
After the huge box-office earnings onslaught of the "X-Men" spin-off movie "Deadpool," producer Simon Kinberg said that there is a possible R-rated treatment for some of the future "X-Men" films. However, the upcoming superhero film "X-Men: Apocalypse" will have a rather operatic tone and will most likely have a PG 13 rating.
Kinberg explained during a Q&A with Collider after an IMAX Screening on Feb. 3 in Los Angeles that there is a possibility for other "X-Men" films to be R-rated, depending on the characters being featured and the tone. Kinberg explained that different superheroes have different tones and not all of them can be possibly given a R-rated approach. "Deadpool" hit the jackpot and won the attraction of movie viewers and comic enthusiasts.
Superhero action film producers are reportedly looking into the different approaches to portraying comic heroes, especially since the current response of film viewers to "Deadpool" has been overwhelming.
Meanwhile, "Deadpool" lead actor Ryan Reynolds spoke in an interview with Filmstarts that there is an unlikely chance for his character to appear in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" movie. However, he announced that he wants to prioritize the making of "X-Force."
In the Marvel Comic canon, Deadpool is the character who messes with several other superheroes in the "X-Men" world and that he even messes with Tony Stark of The Avengers. The actor said in the interview that if "Deadpool" will become a franchise and will have several other movies under its hood, then there is a possibility of exploring those ideas wherein the character of Deadpool will appear in the "X-Men" movies.
In related news, much to the surprise of 20th Century Fox, "Deadpool" came out a box-office champion after all considerable odds against it: being R-rated, adult, and its main character having a less charming disfigured burnt face. The quirky Marvel Comics superhero adaptation has swept all kinds of record breaking in the box office already.
"Deadpool" is now entering its second week in theaters, while "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit cinemas worldwide on May 27.
