iPhone 6 Plus vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Review: Specs, Price and Features Comparison of World's Top Phablets
Apple and Samsung are arguably the world's most prominent tech manufacturers and the last few years have seen the fiercest of rivalries between the two giants. The release of the iPhone 6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 late 2014 has upped the competition in the phablet arena, but how do these two gadgets compare against each other?
Display
The Note 4 wins hands down with its high 551 pixel-per-inch resolution as compared to the iPhone's 401 pixel-per-inch density. The Note also has a larger screen size measuring 5.7 inches diagonally, two inches larger than the iPhones. The Note's display has a finer and smoother detail but the iPhone has a richer and more dynamic color reproduction with better contrast.
Camera
The iPhone has an 8MP rear camera while the Note 4's boasts a 16MP resolution. Despite the seemingly significant difference in resolution, both phablets' picture quality is similar. However in dark environments the iPhone, with its dual-LED flash, outdoes the Note. On the front cameras, the Note wins with its 3.7MP camera over the iPhone's 1.2MP camera.
Design and Structure
On dimensions, the iPhone 6 Plus beats the Note 4 in length by 4.6 millmeters while in width and breadth, the Note 4 wins by a slight margin. The iPhone is four grams lighter than the Note 4. Each device has an edge over the other on matters looks; the Note 4 has a more appealing face with its higher screen-to-body ratio while the iPhone has a sleeker back considering the Note 4's faux leather back panel and the protruding camera lens.
Performance
The Note comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory that is upgradable by microSD up to 128GB.The iPhone on the other hand has a 1GB RAM, with the option of going for a 16GB, 64GB or 128GB internal memory capacity that is un-upgradeable. The iPhone runs on a 1.4 GHz Cyclone dual-core processor while the Note boasts a 2.7 GHz Krait 450 quad-core chipset. The Note carries the day in this comparison.
Apple's iOS 8 has resolved the hitches in the earlier versions of the operating system and has given the iPhone 6 Plus a smoother user interface. Android v4.4.4 (KitKat) installed on the Note 4 is also a major improvement on earlier versions but still the iOS 8 would be the choice for many due to its more appealing interface and ease of use.
Battery Life
Samsung played its cards right on this one; the Note is the definite pick with its removable 3220 mAh battery as compared to the iPhone's non-removable 2915 mAH battery. The Note is powered by a more energy-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor as opposed to the iPhone's Apple A8.
Prices
The iPhone 6 Plus is significantly pricier than the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, retailing at $949 while the latter goes for $890.
