'Captain America: Civil War' spoilers: Martin Freeman joins cast; Mark Ruffalo and an 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' crossover?
It's Captain America (Chris Evans) versus Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) in the upcoming movie "Captain America: Civil War," but they are not the only familiar characters viewers will be seeing on the big screen.
"Sherlock's" Dr. Watson will also be joining the crew. Empire has an exclusive still from the upcoming movie showing Martin Freeman playing Everett Ross. Marvel fans would know that Ross works with the U.S. State Department to escort foreign diplomats.
In the exclusive photo released by Empire, Ross is shown standing beside Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), Cap's "neighbor" from "Captain America: Winter Soldier." There still isn't news if either or both of Ross' and Carter's appearances are going to be brief or not..
Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcom) might have also dropped some major hints. In an interview with BBC Radio, he mentioned another big Hollywood star.
Heroic Hollywood's report pointed out that at around the 18:05 mark in the interview, he said: "It's Marvel's best movie thus far... It's really, really good. It's because it's more of an acting movie than an action movie. I feel like the story is very concise and interesting, and you get to see Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good acting."
Later on, in an appearance in "Late Night With Seth Meyers," Mackie refuted the speculations that Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk, will be included in the new movie. He said, "I was giving respect to my fellow actors. I was saying Marvel movies are so great because they have great actors: The likes of Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey, Jr. And people take that to mean that I'm saying this is what the movie's about and this is what's in the movie."
Last year, Ruffalo already told the media that Hulk is cut from the upcoming movie "Captain America: Civil War."
"The reason [for his disappearance] is too great to be revealed in this movie," he said in an interview with BadTaste Italy and translated by ComingSoon.
Meanwhile, TV Line asked Clark Gregg (who plays Phil Coulson of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) about a crossover happening between the upcoming "Captain America" movie and the TV series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." He explained that the season's first part includes "set up ... the beginning of Secret Warriors, and some stuff that miiiight connect with Civil War — although I don't know that!"
"Captain America: Civil War" will be released on May 6.
