Reba McEntire releases album with songs inspired by her faith
NEW YORK (Christian Examiner) – Famed country music star Reba McEntire released her latest project "Love Somebody," Tuesday. The album is her first since 2010 and features both her songwriting skills and her Christian faith.
The 60-year-old Grammy Award-winner openly shared about God's role in her nearly 40-year career in a recent interview with FOX411, saying her faith "guides me on everything I do."
McEntire credited God for her personal and professional success that over the years has branched from music to movies, musical theater and television.
"I ask for guidance, I ask the Lord to give me wisdom when I speak, when I think and I always try to be positive and say nice things and it gives me strength throughout every minute and every day."
According to McEntire, "Love Somebody" features music inspired by her faith like the song "Pray for Peace" which she says came to her during her personal prayer time.
Explaining how the song was birthed a few years ago while out walking she said, "My front yard is my church and that's where I go out and I talk to God...so 'Pray for Peace' came to my mind and I started praying for peace."
McEntire noted that God continued to give her that message over a long period of time before eventually yielding all the words for the song.
"A month or two later I'm like, 'Lord, what have you got in mind for me? What's my next project?' And He said, 'I want you to pray for peace.'"
A video of the four minute song continually chants the words "pray for peace" before introducing a different melodic line more than half way through.
"There's power in the number of us praying here on earth, asking for a miracle, let your voice be the first," the lyric states.
Recalling when the words finally came together for her to record the track, the music star said, "I don't write a lot but these words came to me...what went from three words went to the longest time I've ever spent on a song."
Another number McEntire said God spoke to her about is "Going Out Like That." The singer said she released the song on YouTube in January 2015 because God told her to "give it away."
The decision to include the single on her new album came because, "fans need to hear it because it is a gift from God," she said.
FOX reported that Reba's faith is the motivation behind her latest effort to use her celebrity status to create awareness about hunger in America through the Outnumber Hunger's campaign. Throughout her career McEntire has sold more than 56 million albums worldwide and most recently became the "flagship artist" for Nash Icon Records.
