Offshore website claims woman will abort unborn baby unless $1 million received
JAPAN (Christian Examiner) -- A website registered to a man in Japan threatens an anonymous 26-year-old graduate student will undergo an abortion to kill her unborn child to spotlight new abortion laws requiring a 72-hour waiting period if she does not receive $1 million in donations in 72 hours through an unregulated website. Donations reportedly begin July 7, the website said.
"I have every intention of having an abortion, but I'm giving you a chance to stop it," said someone claiming to be a 26-year old graduate student at seven weeks pregnant and posted to the online site Prolifeantiwoman.com.
According to the anonymous woman, she currently attends a school "in a state that very recently passed extremely restrictive abortion laws that impose unnecessary waiting time to get an abortion."
Some sources speculate the woman refers to North Carolina because lawmakers there passed such abortion laws in April. Other states that observe 72-hour wait periods periods include South Dakota, Utah and Missouri. Additionally, there are 26 states that require a woman to wait between 24 to 48 hours before going through with an abortion according to Life News.
In an effort to draw attention to such laws, which also require a doctor consultation, the woman has designated a 72-hour deadline for her million-dollar challenge which calls for the pro-life community to donate toward saving her unborn child.
"Mathematically this means that every one of the 157 million Americans that identify as pro-life needs to donate less than one cent to stop this abortion," she wrote in her online post.
The post claims that if $1 million can be raised by July 10 she will choose to see the pregnancy through and instead give the baby up for adoption. The funds will then reportedly be put in a trust made available to the child at age 21.
Alternatively, if the one million dollar goal goes unmet, contributions will allegedly be refunded and the woman will continue with the planned July 10 abortion in her home town.
The writer stated her intentions aimed to target the motive of pro-lifer supporters. She voiced an opinion that, "the pro-life movement cares very little about saving lives and far more about controlling women by minimizing their choices in a wide variety of ways not the least of which is readily available reproductive health care."
Some warned that the fundraising challenge could be nothing more than a "scam" because there is no verifiable way to donate toward a trust fund or similar account.
Still others expressed deep concern over a price being set on the value of a child's life.
Among those are Lila Rose, president of the pro-life group Live Action. Rose appeared last week on the HLN TV network.
"This website that this woman's putting up about killing a child in 72-hours disturbs us because we know it's a child, it's a baby," Rose said.
