Uber News: UberEATS to be launched in Melbourne
UberEATS is continuous in its efforts to expand its services worldwide. On Feb. 26, Uber announced the app's upcoming launch in Melbourne, Australia. The app is said to target the upper market clientele, especially those who haven't tried food delivery service in the past. UberEATS will compete against Menulog, Deliveroo and SupperTime in the online food delivery service in the country.
Melbourne is the third city outside of the United States to experience UberEATS. The online food delivery service app piloted in L.A. and Barcelona and was launched in New York and Chicago. Previously known as UberFRESH in its testing stage, the stand-alone app has gathered positive responses from both its customers and drivers.
"Melbourne is known probably around the world as being the foodie capital of Australia ... we feel people will enjoy the option of having quality meals delivered to them through Uber," according to a quoted statement by D'Marge of Simon Rossi to Fairfax Media.
Minimal details had been provided and is unclear whether the same model as the U.S. version will be used. The stand-alone app can be accessed via UBER simply by sliding over to EATS (if the user is part of their coverage area).
In an emailed statement quoted by Mashable, UberEATS Australia General Manager Simon Rossi said, "We're really excited to announce that we'll be bringing UberEats to Australia and launching soon in Melbourne."
From the recent report done by Wall Street Journal in January, as reported by Mashable, UberEATS continues to gain traction in the market.
Uber made ordering the service for UberEATS as easy as booking a ride:
- Slide over to EATS
- Enter address or move pin to current location, and tap VIEW MENU
- Select number of meals, tap PLACE ORDER.
UberEATS Melbourne will be launched sometime around next month and early sign-up is now available through their website.
