Tim Tebow news: Quarterback rooted for Cam Newton; a post-Super Bowl Newton was hardly talkative
Despite being flattened by the Denver Broncos, the highly-favored North Carolina Panthers had one unlikely supporter on their side with the persona of former Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.
Tebow, who was the field marshal for the Broncos in the 2010-2011 NFL Season, admitted Saturday night prior to the "Big Game" that he will be rooting for the phenomenal quarterback Cam Newton and the rest of the Panthers to nab the Vince Lombardi Trophy, according to an interview on ET Online.
"Obviously, I've got a lot of friends playing in this game, being a former Bronco," Tebow explained
Tebow was drafted out of college by the Broncos in 2010 in the first round as the 25th overall.
"Then, also, I played with Cam, so I'm really rooting for him to finish off a great season," he added as he strongly believed that his teammate at the University of Florida has earned his keep for winning the NFL MVP award.
It was not just famous entertainers who came into full force for Sunday's Super Bowl. In a report from The Daily Mail, a roll call of who's who in the sporting world came to witness the big event at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Former Manchester United and now retired English footballer David Beckham was with his son, an excited Brooklyn brandishing their golden ticket. Brazilian footballer Kaka, who is now signed to the Orlando City SC, was also spotted. Other athletes like 22-year-old English tennis sensation Laura Robson was all Panther-proud in her social media post while boxer Amir Khan showcased his numerous tickets.
The Broncos, however, outplayed the Panthers 24-10 leaving a devastated Newton too docile in the post-game interview, according to a report from ESPN.
Newton who is well-known in the grid-iron ield for his celebratory dab dances limited his answers to quite short comments.
