'The X-Files' revival news, spoilers: EP talks about Maggie's death; 'The Flash's' Robbie Amell to appear in next episode

In Monday's episode of "The X-Files" revival, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) had to say goodbye to her mother Maggie (Sheila Larkin), who passed away after suffering from a heart attack. The tragedy brought up Scully's pent-up feelings about her and Mulder's (David Duchovny) son, whom she had to give up for adoption during the original series' season 9.

"The X-Files" executive producer Glen Morgan, who also writes and directs the revival event, talked to Entertainment Weekly about the episode and said that he wanted Maggie to be the center of the "Home Again" story because, while the show grapples with big mysteries such as aliens and supernatural phenomena, "the reality is mostly these little mysteries in our lives that actually are the most important to us."

"My brother Darin [Morgan, also a writer-director on the show] and I — our mom passed away in 2009, and I wanted to write about that," he revealed. "The phone call and the necklace that Scully has — the prop department did an exact replication of my mom's ... So many people that we love pass away, and they take a lot of answers with them, and I just felt that that was worth exploring on a show like this." 

Meanwhile, next week's episode of "The X-Files" titled "Babylon" will feature Robbie Amell of The CW's "The Flash" as Agent Miller and "Six Feet Under" alum Lauren Ambrose as Agent Einstein. Agents Miller and Einstein are younger FBI agents who will be working with Scully and Mulder on a bombing case. After an art gallery is bombed, the two older agents will try to prevent a second attack by attempting to communicate with the comatose bomber. Miller and Einstein will have Scully and Mulder examining their own beliefs, with Scully turning to neuroscience and Mulder seeking answers from mysticism.

Episode 5 of "The X-Files" revival will air on Monday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
