'Survivor' season 30 spoilers, episode news: 'Worlds Apart' Sees 'White Collar' vs 'Blue Collar' vs 'No Collar' groups compete, receives big ratings
Pioneering American reality television show, "Survivor," premiered its thirtieth season this week, with a new social experiment that groups contestants based on their working class and their disposition in life.
Just like previous instillations of the reality show, the new season called "Survivor: Worlds Apart" still stranded 18 complete strangers off a remote island in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
This time, the contestants were split into three tribes based on their occupation: the Masaya Tribe, which is composed of "White Collar" professionals and office workers; the Escameca Tribe, which is made up of "Blue Collar" physical laborers; and the Nagarote Tribe, which includes free-spirited individuals who have unusual work arrangements.
In an interview witth Entertainment Weekly, "Survivor" host Jeff Probst say all the contestants felt like "they were in the right group," but admitted that the grouping might be driving a specific type of behavior among contestants just by labeling them according to their working class.
In the first episode of the new season, some contestants were made to choose between deceiving their whole tribe and receiving a clue to a hidden immunity idol, or telling the truth to their tribe mates and earning a big bag of beans for the entire group.
Both the "Blue Collar" Tribe and the "No Collar" Tribe went for the truth, but members of the "White Collar" Tribe chose to lie to their tribe mates to earn an advantage in the game.
The "White Collar" tribe, however, lost the immunity challenge, and were forced to vote out one of their own. Ultimately, one of the persons who chose to lie, 31-year-old retail buyer, So Kim, was voted out of the game, primarily because of distrust from the others.
According an article on BroadwayWorld.com, "Survivor: Worlds Apart" delivered the largest premiere audience since 2012, with an average 9.88 million viewers watching the show.
"Survivor: Worlds Apart" airs on CBS every Wednesday.
