Samsung Galaxy S7 release date rumors: Latest Samsung flagship phone coming Feb. 21?
Samsung is reportedly set to launch the latest version of its Galaxy S flagship device on Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Although CNET admits that the South Korean tech giant did not explicitly announce that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will make its much-anticipated debut at the event, it says that the company has given out invitations to its next Unpacked event, which will be held at 7 p.m. CET on the night before the MWC opens. Despite the lack of confirmation on the S7 launch, CNET expects Samsung to "unpack" the seventh iteration of its premium smartphone at the MWC event.
The MWC is one of the year's biggest mobile trade shows and has been the venue for many device launches from the world's biggest tech conglomerates.
Meanwhile, leakster Evan Blass, who has a history of accurate tech predictions, said that the Samsung Galaxy S7 could hit store shelves in the U.S. as early as March 11. Blass had no news about when the new Samsung flagship smartphone will be released for other markets.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S7's specs, rumors are swirling about a possible MicroSD card slot similar to those of older versions of the phone and a larger screen than that on the Galaxy S6. There is also talk about the S7 being dust- and water-resistant like the S5 and that the battery of the Galaxy S7 edge will be about 38 percent bigger than that in the S6 edge.
In late 2015, CNET reported on rumors that the Galaxy S7 will feature a pressure-sensitive display similar to that of the latest iPhones and that it will come equipped with a retina scanner.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be released in two variants: a flat S7 and a curved S7 edge.
