Samsung Electronics held a press release on Monday morning, Feb. 15, for the update of its Samsung Galaxy S6 line to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The Galaxy S6 line may be the South Korean tech giant's top-of-the-line smartphone to date; however, it has received a few criticisms on its new design and its operating system not adapting Android's latest OS during its launch.

The Galaxy S6's update to Marshmallow appeals to the phone's loyal users. Marshmallow was released in November 2015 but Samsung was not quick to acquire the update. The tech giant's press release of the recent update is very strategic in capturing the market share and interest of smartphone enthusiasts, especially since the Mobile World Congress 2016 is just around the corner, come Feb. 22 in Barcelona, Spain.

Samsung said updates to Marshmallow for the rest of the Galaxy gadgets will follow. It took a while and several beta testing before the company finally started releasing the much awaited update for the Galaxy S6 line.

Loyalists of the Galaxy S6 line can expect an enhanced edge screen experience with its new features, according to Samsung Newsroom. The edge screen will appear relatively bigger and users will have more freedom to view meatier in-app content. One distinct usability of the Galaxy S6's edge screen is that it gets rid of the hassle of having to go through different home screens by providing quick access screens refered to as the "edge panels". The new thing about the S6's update to Marshmallow is that these quick access edge panels can now be customized to nine panels in total. Each panel can be considered a homescreen of opened apps or information or tasks. Users can also expect redesigns for Apps edge and People edge panels.

Samsung is expected to launch its next-generation Galaxy phone, the Galaxy S7, on Feb. 21 during its Unpacked event, right before the MWC 2016, which will be held at the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona.
