Oculus Rift pre-orders canceled news update: Oculus cancels 'a small number' of Rift pre-orders
Some gaming enthusiast got disappointed after checking their email and read that their Oculus Rift orders have been canceled.
However, many of these reported instances are those orders that were bound for unsupported countries or were otherwise suspicious orders. Initially, Oculus has limited the Rift headset orders to ship in 20 countries, as reported by Tech Crunch.
It is reported that the cancellations were made a day after the launch details regarding the HTC Vive – an Oculus Rift competitor – were released. Apparently, the Vive headsets are available to be shipped to countries not supported by the Oculus such as China.
There are customers who waited for years just for Oculus Rift to arrive. Some of them even upgraded their PC s just to be able to run the VR headset.
One of them is a Reddit user martin_cy who ordered the Rift using his real business address in the U.S. (a physical office with 60 employees), although he admitted that he is located in an unsupported country. He even spent $1,400 on upgrading his PC to run the headset.
"they better fix this, I just spent like 1400 on upgrading my PC for this.. and I had a 28th of March shipping time since I was one of those f5ing when the pre-order went up.. this is NOT ok," he wrote.
Oculus, noting the cancellations, stated via Tech Crunch, "A small number of pre-orders were unable to be processed and as a result were canceled. Customers can contact support if they have a question about their order."
Another Reddit user, William_VR, who is an Oculus representative commented in a thread titled "Order cancelled??" to let the buyers know that the company is addressing their concerns. He said that the company is aware about the questions regarding the pre-orders and cancellations, and that they are sorry for any confusion it may have caused. He instructed the affected customers to contact the Oculus support team for any questions about the order cancellation.
