BBC Radio 4 Neil Gaiman 'Neverwhere' release date update: Radio drama available again on BBC Radio 4
Good news for fans of author Neil Gaiman, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra has made the "Neverwhere" radio adaptations available again for the public.
The first four episodes titled "The London Below," "Earl's Court," "The Angel Islington," and "The Black Friars" are now available for listening on their website. The last two episodes, "Market Afloat" and "The Key," will be available on Feb. 25 and 26 at 6 p.m., London Time.
"Neverwhere" is an urban fantasy story that surrounds the magical realm of "London Above" and "London Below" that coexists with the real London. Richard Mayhew, the main protagonist, starts his adventures in this magical realm when he decides to help an injured and bloodied girl named Door whom he found on the street one night, much to his fiancee's protests.
The TV series by Gaiman and Lenny Henry first aired in 1996 on BBC 2 and was then adapted by Gaiman in a novel of the same title wherein the writer elaborated elements of the story and restored some of his original ideas that didn't make it to the TV show.
In March 2013, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra broadcasted the first 6-part radio adaptation of the story and was rebroadcasted in December of the same year, which ran for only 6 days.
The cast includes "X-Men" star James McAvoy who plays Richard Mayhew and "Game of Thrones" star Natalie Dormer for the character of Door. "Sherlock" actor Benedict Cumberbatch is also part of the cast as the Angel Islington. Gaiman himself voiced a couple of characters like Figgis.
Other cast members include: David Harewood, Sophie Okonedo, Anthony Head, David Schofield, Bernard Cribbins, Lucy Cohu, George Harris, Sir Christopher Lee, and Romola Garai.
"Neverwhere" episodes are only available for one month after its release. Episode 1, "The London Below," only has 26 days left.
