NBA trading rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers wants streak-shooting wizard Jared Dudley before trade deadline
The Washington Wizards' three-point specialist Jared Dudley and the Sacramento Kings' swingman Rudy Gay are two names that have been reeled in in a possible trade scenario with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers may be on top of the basketball food chain in the Eastern Conference of the NBA; however, the reigning Eastern Conference Finals champions have had their back pushed to the wall, especially when matched up with top-tier teams from the Western end of the spectrum, namely the Golden State Warriors.
It has been revealed that the Cavaliers have been in hot pursuit of Dudley even during his stint with the Milwaukee Bucks, as mentioned by Brian Windhorst via ESPN Cleveland.
The team wants to beef up their shooting from the rainbow country and the journeyman is the peg that will easily fit their gaping hole. The 30-year-old Dudley was traded to the Wizards for a future second-round pick.
Dudley averages 11.2 points per 36 minutes and has a .489 percent average on the three-point perimeter. The streak-shooter will probably need time to adjust with Cavaliers' point guard Kyrie Irving if such a trade will happen, especially with the latter having a shoot-first mentality.
In an interview with Basketball Insiders, Dudley made it clear why he needs to use up a lot of minutes in the hard court.
"I shoot the ball better when I play more. When you get more touches, you don't feel like you have to take as many quick shots," he said. "You can choose your spots, and of course it helps when you're playing with an All-Star point guard like John [Wall]. I haven't had that since CP3 and [Steve] Nash, so it's a perfect fit with this team."
The Cavaliers are holding a 37-14 win-loss card and adding the veteran will not just be a moving-forward scenario in the perimeter but also another solid locker room presence to complement Richard Jefferson.
