Mass Effect fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the next installment of the action role-playing video game for quite a long time now, but some new reports indicate that gamers will have to wait until next year for its release.

According to a report posted on the website of The Sunday Express, Mass Effect 4 is likely to be launched in 2016, a little later than the 2015 target set by its developer, Canadian gaming company Bioware.

The same report said over 200 people are currently working on the full production of the next Mass Effect release, after they completed and launched of another Bioware role-playing video game, Dragon Age: Inquisition.

A remastering project for the Mass Effect Trilogy is also possible starting this year, The Sunday Express reported.

A separate report for iDigitalTimes.com meanwhile said that the upcoming Mass Effect installment will include online gameplay.

BioWare Senior Development Director Chris Wynn announced via Twitter this week that the gaming company needs "an excellent producer to come shape online for the next Mass Effect."

In a related news, BioWare General Manager Aaryn Flynn told NEOGaf that the next Mass Effect release will still be using a new DICE Frostbite Engine, but will still be "drawing on its own rich and successful past."

"We had that in ME1, and bringing it back is more related to a feeling that we can do it much better than we did before and fulfill the original promise of that gameplay," Flynn said.
