'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' news, updates: Director gives out details
Writer and director James Gunn of the movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" just confirmed the ongoing production of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." He posted some news and updates about the film in his social media accounts.
On Twitter, she showcased the official photography of the upcoming movie.
His post on Facebook gives more detail about the cast members. He emphasized that the speculations are true about "The Hateful Eight" actor Kurt Russel being in the movie. He also added that some old cast members will return.
Fans can expect to once again see their favorite characters from the previous movie. This includes Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Yondu (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn). The audience wouldn't be a stranger to Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) either.
Gunn also took it to Instagram, posting a behind-the-scenes photo to give more tease. It shows a director's chair with the title of the film emblazoned at the back.
"In the words of the great poet David Coverdale, Here I go again," he said in his caption, adding the hastag #GotGVol2.
Additionally, the speculations that the sequel will include "Hacker's Game" actress Pom Klementieff and Elizabeth Debicki of "Macbeth" are true. American actor and singer Chris Sullivan will also be joining the cast.
What the roles they are to play, however, remains a mystery except for Klementieff who will be playing Mantis.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" opened on Aug. 1, 2014, garnering a total gross of $333 million to date in the U.S. alone, plus $440 million across the globe. During its opening weekend, it gathered $94 million, making it No. 1 in 4,088 theaters, according to Box Office Mojo. It was also nominated for two awards at the Oscars. In addition, the film's soundtrack went platinum and was nominated for a Grammy, as reported by Marvel.
Disney-owned Marvel Studios said that production is ongoing with the principal photography starting in Atlanta's Pinewood Studios.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be shown in theaters starting May 5, 2017.
