Following the exit of original cast member Patrick Dempsey, "Grey's Anatomy" is adding some fresh blood to its cast.

The Hollywood Reporter said in an exclusive report that 22-year-old actor Joe Adler has been enlisted to play a new intern in the still-popular medical drama. No further details were given as regards to his role.

Adler will reportedly star in the final two episodes of Grey's Anatomy's eleventh season.

Adler is most known for his role as Jason Wylie in the police procedural series "The Mentalist." He also starred in the American comedy-drama "Shameless."

The actor also has had guest appearances in popular television shows like "Modern Family," "Bones," "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

Adler, who is repped by Paradigm and Authentic Talent and Literary Management, also recently starred in the science-fiction film "The Maze Runner."

Adler is the second newest addition to the "Grey's Anatomy" cast this month. Earlier, Giacomo Gianniotti was also announced to be joining the cast of the Shonda Rhimes medical drama.

"Grey's Anatomy" is beefing up its cast following the recent departure of some of its main stars, most notably Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd.

Dempsey's character was killed off during the show's April 23 episode. This episode received high ratings—having been watched by 12.8 million viewers—and generated much buzz on social media.

Earlier this month, award-winning actress Sandra Oh also left "Grey's Anatomy" after being in the medical drama for 10 years.

"Grey's Anatomy" will return this Thursday with a two-hour episode starting at 8 p.m. on ABC.
