'The Good Wife' canceled, finale latest news: Show to end after season 7, CBS confirms
It's official: CBS legal drama "The Good Wife" will conclude with its seventh season.
The end of the series was revealed in a Super Bowl on-air promo on Sunday, Feb. 7, and was confirmed by CBS shortly after. The season 7 finale, which will also be the series' final episode, will air on Sunday, May 8.
CBS released a joint statement from CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller and CBS TV Studios president David Stapf about the end of "The Good Wife." It reads:
"It's never easy to say goodbye to one of the crown jewels of your network and studio, much less to a show that is among the best on television. But it also feels very right to end with the seven-year story its creators envisioned, and to celebrate the show's final run while at the top of its creative game."
The CBS executives said that it has been the network's "sincere privilege" to air "The Good Wife" for seven seasons and thanked the show's cast, producers, and creators Robert and Michelle King for a "smart, sophisticated series" with "so many memorable characters and unforgettable moments."
Robert and Michelle King, the married couple who co-created the series, also released a joint statement saying, "'The Good Wife' has been the creative experience of a lifetime."
The Kings, whose exit from the series was confirmed in January, thanked the network and the show's cast and crew, and said that they were looking forward to crafting the seventh season in such a way that it would bring Alicia Florick's (Juliana Margulies) story to "its natural conclusion."
"The Good Wife" premiered in September 2009 and is currently on its seventh run. The legal and political drama series stars Margulies as lawyer Alicia Florick. Its season 7 main cast members include Christine Baranski, Alan Cumming, Matt Czuchry, Zach Grenier, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Cush Jumbo.
"The Good Wife" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
