Popular fantasy epic drama "Game of Thrones" is likely to run for seven seasons, its show runners said this week.

One of the show's main men, David Benioff, said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, that the fourth and current season of "Game of Thrones" is being considered as the "pivot point."

"It feels like this is the midpoint for us. If we're going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, Season 4 is right down the middle," Benioff said in an article posted on EW.com.

The writer-producer also admitted that seven seasons have always been the plan from the start, in line with the there of the show.

"Once we got to the point where we felt like we're going to be able to tell this tale to its conclusions, that became [an even clearer] goals. Seven gods, seven kingdoms, seven season. It feels right to us," Benioff told Entertainment Weekly.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo meanwhile said that the cable network will discuss just how long "Game Of Thrones" will run with the show runners very soon.

Lombardo nevertheless said that he is alright with Benioff's plan to end the smash-hit show after seven seasons.

"I hate to sound greedy, but our longest shows have gone seven or eight seasons, so seven is a nice long run for us," Lombardo also told Entertainment Weekly.

Author George R. R. Martin is still working on the two remaining novels of the "Song of Fire and Ice" series, which is the source material of "Game of Thrones." The next book in the series will be called "The Winds of Winter."

"Game of Thrones" will be returning to HBO this April 6.
