'Fresh Off The Boat' Series Ratings News: ABC Show Debuts to Solid Ratings
ABC's "Fresh Off The Boat," the first Asian American family comedy to air on television in two decades, debuted to solid ratings both during its Wednesday sampling and its regular Tuesday airing.
According to a report posted on the entertainment website deadline.com, the sitcom scored last Wednesday the second highest ratings for a comedy series this season, next only to another show airing on ABC, the black family sitcom "Black-ish."
The Asian American family comedy series debut was watched by some 7.9 milion viewers, building on the ratings its lead-in, the working class sitcom "The Middle."
When "Fresh Off The Boat" transferred to its regular Tuesday 8 p.m. time slot , the new show also faired decently, attrating 6 million viewers, with a 1.7 rating in adults aged 18 to 49 years old.
ABC's newest comedy outperformed other series recently launched by the network, such as the romantic comedy series "Selfie," whose debut was watched by 4.9 million viewers, and another romantic comedy, "Manhattan Love Story," which had 4.2 million viewers during its premiere last year.
"Fresh Off the Boat" also outrated more established comedy series aired by competing networks, including Fox's "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project," and NBC's "Parks and Recreation."
The freshman show explores the lives of the Huangs, a family of Taiwanese origin moved to Orlando, Florida from Washington D.C. to allow the patriarch, Louis (played by Randall Park), to pursue his dream of owning a Western restaurant.
"Fresh Off The Boat" was inspired by a best-selling memoir of the same title written by Eddie Huang.
The show also stars Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Ian Chen and Forrest Wheeler.
