Netflix gave Marvel fans a huge post-Valentine's Day gift on Monday, Feb. 15, dropping the first full-length trailer for the upcoming second season of its popular Marvel Comics-based series, "Daredevil."

The season 2 official trailer gave fans of the show their first look at Daredevil's (Charlie Cox) new adversary, the morally ambiguous mercenary Frank Castle aka The Punisher, played by "The Walking Dead" alum Jon Bernthal.

"I need to take care of the scum that killed my family," The Punisher says in the trailer. The character, who takes it upon himself to rid Daredevil's neighborhood of the people he considers to be bad guys, is seen in the action-packed teaser taking down criminals and gang members before eventually coming face-to-face with Daredevil.

The Punisher, who is a man out for vengeance, tells the Devil of Hell's Kitchen why he does what he does. "If you hit them, they get back up. I hit them and they stay down," he snarls.

The vigilante taunts the masked hero, saying: "I think you're a half-measure. I think you're a man who can't finish the job. I think that you're a coward."

Bernthal's portrayal of The Punisher for the second season of "Daredevil" has reportedly so impressed Netflix that rumors of a "Punisher" spinoff starring the actor began swirling in January. But though the streaming service has not confirmed whether it is developing a "Punisher" spinoff to add to its five Marvel series, many have commended Bernthal's take on the Marvel Comics antihero. One of them is his former boss, "The Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Ann Hurd.

"I can't imagine a better Frank Castle, to bring the Punisher to life on Netflix," Hurd told ComicBook.com. "I just can't. I saw Jon while he was shooting last year, and he's an incredibly committed actor. He's able to find the sort of darkness that Frank Castle needs."

The second trailer for "Daredevil" season 2 will be released on Thursday, Feb. 25.

The second season of "Daredevil" premieres on March 18 on Netflix, with all 13 episodes dropping at once.
