The Apple Watch is still being offered at reduced prices in selected stores, and there are speculations going around that Apple's next-generation smartwatch might already be on its way.

During the sale, which started before Valentine's Day, Apple's first smartwatch is being offered by stores like Target and Best Buy at $100 off their regular prices. The 42 mm Apple Watch Sport in all colors, which used to be priced at $399, is now currently being sold at $299 USD. The 38 mm Apple Watch Sport in all colors is currently priced at $249 USD, down from its original price of $349. Several other designs are discounted by $100 as featured in the websites of stores offering the sale.

As for the Apple Watch 2, 9TO5Mac reports that the production of the new watches started in the last week of January and will most likely be revealed in mid-March this year. Apple is said to be holding an event to announce its upgraded devices, such as the iPhone 5se and its new iPad Air 3.

TechCrunch, however, reports that Apple is possibly considering to capture the market share with their first Apple Watch before releasing their second generation wearable device. Similar to its other gadget lines, people who buy the Apple Watch may consider purchasing an upgraded one in a few years. Apple users can expect several updates in the coming months, which will provide the tech giant a bigger market share with improved margins.

TechCrunch explains that Apple's strategy to have the Apple Watch out in the market for a longer time will strengthen brand loyalty among users since the smartwatch is easily connected to the iPhone and this is suggestive that people who already own the iPhone 5 and later models will most likely consider purchasing the smartwatch.

The selected stores who chose to put the smartwatch on sale offered the discounts during Valentine's week, a timely sale as people were likely to purchase the watch for their loved ones.
