'Winds of Winter' release update: Will it come out before 'Game of Thrones' season 6 in April?
The #1 New York Times bestselling author George R.R. Martin has announced in his LiveJournal page that his book "The Winds of Winter," the sixth novel in the epic series "A Song of Ice and Fire," is not finished.
In the post, Martin finally told fans about the current status of the upcoming book. Before revealing anything, he even gave a warning: "Here's the update. You won't like it."
Martin further explained: "You're disappointed, and you're not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed... but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me. For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, 'I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER' on or before the last day of 2015."
The author's perfectionism was evident when he said, "But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well. Chapters still to write, of course... but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures."
Considering the upcoming release of the season 6 of "Game of Thrones" in April, the delay in this book is giving much pressure on the world-renowned author. Many are worried that there will be a lot of spoilers, since the show might unveil things that are not yet revealed in the book.
According to the author, the delay could have resulted from distractions of other projects, too much travel, numerous blogging, or even his age. He also claimed that he's always had problems with deadlines, explaining that was his reason why he chose to write fiction stories than work for a newspaper and struggle with submitting within the time limit.
Martin ended his blog on a lighter note by saying: "GAME OF THRONES is the most popular television series in the world right now.....WINDS OF WINTER should be pretty good too, when it comes out. As good as I can make it, anyway. Enjoy the show. Enjoy the books."
