"Game of Thrones" will have to wait a little longer to get to know what happened to their favorite characters in the popular epic saga.

"The Winds of Winter," the sixth volume to George RR Martin's bestselling "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, will not be released this year, the author's publisher said.

In an interview with British national daily newspaper The Guardian, Martin's publisher Jane Johnson of HarperCollins said she has no information on the likely release of the new book this year.

Johnson explained that the book is "increasingly complex" and requires "immense amounts of concentration to write."

"Fans really ought to appreciate that the length of these monsters is equivalent to two or three novels by other writers," she said in the newspaper interview.

In a post on his official blog last December, Martin said he is still working on "The Winds of Winter."

The popular author also said that he will publicly announce that his next book is already done once it actually gets finished.

To tide Martin's avid readers over while waiting for his next nover, HaraperCollins will release illustrated versions of the prequels to the "A Song of Fire and Ice" series.

The official prequel novellas, which will be released in October, will include "The Hedge Knight," "The Sworn Sword" and "The Mystery Knight."

The novellas will be illustrated "in classic style" by American comic artist Gary Gianni, according to Johnson.

"The short novels have been previously published in separate anthologies but never put together before, and this will be a particularly beautiful edition," the publisher said.
