'Tron Run/r' news: New 'Tron' video game released
The Walt Disney Company resurrects the adventure sci-fi "Tron" franchise by releasing a new video game called "Tron Run/r" on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Described as Disney Interactive's new direction, the new Disney-Sanzaru Games collaboration allows its gamers to run, light-disc and ride through the 32-level virtual world that also features cues from the original "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy" movies.
"Tron Run/r" was made available this week through the PlayStation 4 and Steam platforms. The game will be available on Xbox One on March 1 as announced by the Xbox Store. The game was reportedly made available on Steam Early Access since December and it allowed users to test the game while it was still under development.
The release of the game signifies that the company is not totally done with the "Tron" franchise yet. Last year, Disney decided to forego "Tron 3" just after revealing that actors Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund of "Tron: Legacy" were to reprise their roles in tandem with the film's director, Joseph Kosinski.
In related news, Disney XD, a satellite television unit of the Disney Media Networks, released the animated spin-off "Tron: Uprising" in 2012. The 18-episode animated series had a good rating of 8.8 from viewers, according to TV.Com. Apart from this animated spin-off, the new action and adventure-filled "Tron Run/r" game is so far the only offering Disney has for fans of the franchise.
When the original 1982 "Tron" movie was released by Disney, they also released a game of the same name under the distribution of Bally Midway. It is a coin-operated arcade game which reportedly earns more than Disney's film.
