Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge specs, features review: Water resistance, thinner camera, free Gear VR when pre-ordered
Samsung has finally introduced the newest members to its Galaxy family, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Both have almost the same design as the previous Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, but these new ones underwent some improvements.
The new Galaxy phones both run on the Android 6.01 Marshmallow operating system. They have 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, expandable up to 200 GB . They are powered by either a Snapdragon 820 Octa Core (2.3 GHz Quad + 1.6Ghz Quad) or an Exynos 8890 Quad Core (2.15 GHz Dual + 1.6Ghz Dual), depending on the region it will be distributed. In terms of battery, the Galaxy S7 has a 3000 mAh unit and the Galaxy S7 edge has 3600 mAh, both non-removable.
The new Galaxy phones still sport the same Super AMOLED Quad HD screen as the S6, with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. Samsung also brought back the mircroSD slot in this year's models, allowing users to expand their phones' storage.
The noticeable difference between the two phones is the size. The S7 edge is bigger by 0.4 inch than the S7, which is 5.1 inches. One of the improvements is the curved back, making the phones easier to grip.
Both devices have IP68 certification, which means they are dust-resistant and water-resistant for 30 minutes in up to five feet of water. T-Mobile did an unboxing of this product underwater.
Camera-wise, the phones now have a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, dual-sensor phase-detect autofocus, and takes clearer and sharper low-light photography. It is also now protruding by only 0.46 mm, compared to the 1.6 mm jut of the Galaxy S6's camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 comes in only two colors: black onyx and gold platinum; while the Galaxy S7 edge comes in black onyx, gold platinum and silver titanium. Colors may vary by country.
Starting March 11, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will be available in 60 countries worldwide. Samsung announced that for a limited time and until supplies last, those who will pre-order will get to have a free Oculus technology-powered Samsung Gear VR for free.
