Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date, specs news: New features to include wireless charging, virtual reality headgear?
After the success of Samsung Galaxy Note 4, smartphone enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the release of the South Korean electronics giant's next big screen device.
Samsung, however, has yet to announce when the Galaxy Note 5 will be released, although according to an article on The International Business Times, the next smartphone may be released in September, or at about the same time the Galaxy Note 4 was released last year.
More hints, however, are available about the possible features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. For instance, the upcoming smartphone may introduce a feature never seen from its competitor, the iPhone: wireless charging.
In an editorial posted on its website, Samsung described 2015 as "a landmark year for the growth of wireless charging deployment."
The South Korean firm also predicted that "wireless charging stations will begin to appear in more and more public places."
"Samsung will accelerate to democratize this wireless charging technology with compelling smartphones. With our upcoming Galaxy smartphones, users will be able to enter a new wireless world like never before," the Samsung editorial said.
The next Samsung phablet is also expected to feature a new virtual reality headgear called the Gear VR from Oculus.
Oculus chief technology officer John Carmack hinted at the tie-up with Samsung for the Galaxy Note 5 during a presentation at the Game Developer's Conference earlier this month.
""We've got a plan now; we've got a date. You can kind of mark it on the calendars. Oculus is going to go for it as hard as we can [with] broad consumers, trying to sell as many units as possible, unleashing Samsung [marketing] with the next Gear VR," Carmack was quoted by Engadget.com as saying.
