Joey Feek cancer update news: Rory and Joey to celebrate Grammy nomination, daughter's birthday this week
Christian country singer Rory Feek has a few celebrations planned for his family this week.
In his latest blog post titled "The Master Plan," Feek, whose wife Rory is in hospice care battling Stage IV cervical cancer, wrote, "Valentines Day is this Sunday, the Grammy awards Monday, our little Indiana turns 2 on Wednesday, and on top of all that, our new album was released today."
According to Rory, while he would have loved to share a romantic candle-lit dinner with Joey on Valentine's Day, her condition hasn't allowed her to eat much and she is spending most of her time asleep. So, he said, this year they will spend Valentine's "reliving [their] beautiful journey."
"So my hope this year instead is to hold her hand and take her on a 'virtual' walk down memory lane together... with pictures and videos on my laptop," he said.
After Valentine's Day, the couple will spend Monday night watching the Grammy Awards ceremony with Joey's family. The two, who make up the country/bluegrass duo Joey+Rory, are nominated this year in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for their single "If I Needed You."
According to Rory, their daughters Hopie and Heidi will be at the Grammy's representing himself and his wife. Although Joey persuaded him to go to Los Angeles with them and even went so far as to purchase a plane ticket for him, Rory decided to stay with Joey.
"I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn't going to be one of them," he said.
Instead of attending the Grammy Awards night, Rory said that he and Joey will be rooting for Blake Shelton, Little Big Town, and the rest of the artists in their category from her bedroom.
Later in the week, the couple will celebrate their daughter Indiana's second birthday, the milestone that cancer-stricken Joey has been fighting to stay alive for. According to her father, Indiana will celebrate her birthday with a Gruffalo-themed cupcake and owl ice cream.
"Our plan is to put streamers up around Joey's bed and move Indiana's high-chair in beside her, so Joey can be part of it," Rory said.
