Planned Parenthood videos inspired this couple to adopt babies saved from abortion
WILMORE, Ky. (Christian Examiner) – After watching the fourth Planned Parenthood video in which the dismembered body parts of an aborted boy are the brunt of workers' jokes, Kevin and Nicole Cook were devastated.
"When I watch the despicable horrors of these videos being released about Planned Parenthood and their profiting from the sale of fetus organs," Kevin wrote on his blog, "it doesn't break my heart... it completely shatters it. Thousands of women each day choose to have their unwanted children killed rather than born, and we are sitting here praying and hoping each month that God would finally answer our cries and bless us [with pregnancy]."
Our prayer is to completely overwhelm adoption agencies nationwide with an influx of birth mothers who have seen our message and have chosen life!
After writing about the numbers of abortions compared to the numbers of adoptions, calling Planned Parenthood's profits a genocide of convenience, Kevin ended his post with a plea:
"If anyone out there reads this and is considering abortion, I will take your baby. My wife and I will gladly take all your babies! I'm completely serious. If you are pregnant and don't want your child, we will. It's not a fetus. It's a blessing. Life matters."
So they stood outside an abortion clinic with their message of love.
Nicole's sign said, "God Loves You and Your Baby." Kevin's sign said, "Please Don't Abort... We Will Adopt Your Baby. Come Talk to Us!"
When the Cooks posted the photo of themselves holding the sign to Facebook, it quickly went viral, getting over 7,000 shares the first weekend. Now it has been shared more than 33,000 times.
ATTEMPTING SOMETHING BIG
On Oct. 30, Kevin and Nicole joined protestors outside the Planned Parenthood in Lexington in what they considered a response to a challenge to "Attempt Something Big," a campaign at Asbury Theological Seminary where Kevin is a student.
"Our hearts are broken with a desire to make an impact," Kevin wrote. "We're asking God to move. When Dr. Tennent preached on this whole 'Attempt Something Big' thing, this is what he said: 'Attempt something so big, that unless God intervenes, it is bound to fail.'
"We've seen the statistics. We've seen the financial requirements for adoption, the legal requirements, the long and tedious process. And we are absolutely convinced that unless God intervenes, it is bound to fail. So come on Jesus! Make it happen!"
The couple has since been inundated with queries from other couples seeking adoption, stories from people who have lost babies or regretted abortion, and pregnant women wanting to know about alternatives to abortion.
They announced they had retained an adoption attorney and started a GoFundMe account called Cook Adoption Fund.
"Hundreds of Facebook messages came pouring in: encouraging messages from supporters, families also interested in adoption, and yes, a number of expecting mothers who were considering abortion who would like for us to adopt their baby instead! What an incredible answer to prayer!" the Cooks said on their fundraising page.
ADOPTION AGENCIES
Because the Cooks cannot legally mediate between a birth mother and adoptive parents, they have been referring people to adoption agencies.
"Our prayer is to completely overwhelm adoption agencies nationwide with an influx of birth mothers who have seen our message and have chosen life!" Kevin wrote on his blog. "If we can double the number of mothers choosing life and connecting with adoption agencies, we would save thousands of innocent lives and provide loving families with the children their hearts long for. We would also bring down the waiting time and overhead cost of adoption through agencies. Lord, hear our prayer! Jesus, make it happen!"
The Cooks have decided they are able to adopt two babies right now in addition to the biological children they hope to have, but they said they are open to adopting more in the future because they want a big family.
Even more importantly, they want to save lives from abortion.
Kevin wrote about the devastating abortion numbers from 2013: for every one woman who chose an adoption referral, 174 chose abortion for a total of 327,653 abortions performed by Planned Parenthood that year.
"That's just under 900 deaths per day; 900 heartbeats that were forcibly stopped; 900 futures that would never be known; 900 souls that never got to love," he said.
