On-demand Internet streaming media Netflix has recently announced the premiere date of the third season of its Emmy-Award-winning American crime comedy-drama series "Orange Is The New Black."

According to an article posted on TVLine.com, the new season of the series will be released by Netflix on June 12.

The groundbreaking show follows the lives of inmates in the fictional prison in Litchfield, New York. It is loosely based on Piper Kerman's memoir, "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison."

The series starts Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman, an advertising executive who gets sentenced to 15 months in women's federal prison for drug trafficking.

The third season of "Orange is the New Black" promises interesting additions to the original cast. Veteran actress Mary Steenburgen, for instance, will now join the series as the mother of former corrections officer, George Mendez (played by Pablo Schreiber), popularly known as "Pornstache."

New cast members also include Mike Birbiglia and Ruby Rose, whose roles have yet to be announced.

Before the season premiere of "Orange is the New Black," Netflix is also releasing a new sci-fi drama entitled "Sense8" on June 5.

The streaming video service will also launch "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp" on July 17. The show is the continuation of a comedy film in 2001 of the same title.

Three other Netflix shows will be available this May. These include a Spanish-language comedy tackling soccer, "Club Cuervos" and a thriller starring Jeannette McCurdy called "Between."

In the same month, Netflix will release a new drama called "Narcos," which stars actor Pedro Pascal from the popular series, "Game of Thrones."
