HTC Vive 2016 news, price details Consumer edition VR headset bundled with two controllers costs $799

HTC announced the price and the pre-order date of the Vive on their blog site. The VR headset costs $799 and comes with two controllers and small sensors that map out the room's gaming space.

It also comes with two VR games, which are the "Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives" by Owlchemy Labs, and "Fantastic Contraption" by Northway Games and Radial Games for a "limited time," as reported by the Seattle Times. However, according to HTC, they are working with developers to create virtual experiences beyond gaming like automotive, entertainment, design, healthcare, education, retail and entertainment.

Vive also boasts its new feature wherein gamers can connect their iOS or Android phone through Bluetooth and this will allow them to answer calls and text while they are in a virtual environment.

Dan O'Brien, HTC's Vice President of VR, Planning and Management, said that they are actually excited about their price when he was asked how it would be justifying their VR's $799 price-tag.

"Because it is the price for the complete system," he said, as reported by Tech Chrunch. "It is the price for a system with input and controllers. For 360-degree tracking at full room scale. With safety and chaperone. All the things that we've thought about to make it the best possible experience. That's what that price is for. And we feel really good about it. It's giving that user that one-time, out of box, it's all there for you. We're going to continue pounding that message that this is the complete system, this is the complete package."

To be able to run the Vive, the PC should have at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent, an Intel i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 equivalent, 4 GB of RAM, HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2, one USB 2.0 port and Windows 7.

The first public announcement for the Vive headset was made at the Mobile World Conference held in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday. The virtual reality device will be launched initially in 24 countries: the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Austria, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Belgium, Iceland, Denmark, Japan, Poland, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ireland, Sweden, China, Australia and New Zealand.

HTC Vive preorders will open on Feb. 29. at 10 a.m. EST.
