HTC has remained non-committal about announcing the release date and specifications for its next flagship smartphone, the HTC One M9. However there is unconfirmed information about what the manufacturer will be packaging in the M9, considering the new features expected of the device as compared to its predecessor, the HTC One M8. To begin with, the device is expected to be released early 2015 if HTC will follow the trend it has taken in releasing earlier smartphones in the HTC One series.

Following complaints about the M8's bulkiness and size, the One M9 will be slightly smaller, measuring 144.3, 69.4 and 9.6 millimeters in length, width and breadth respectively. It will be fitted with a non-removable 2840 mAh battery and it is anticipated that the device will be waterproof.

The M9 will come with a 20.7 MP rear camera with dual LEDs, which will be a huge improvement from the 'mediocre' 4 MP camera on the M8. The front camera will however be a downgrade to 4 MP, from its predecessor's 5 MP.

The gadget will come installed with the Android 5.0.1 (Lollipop) OS and a Qualcomm MSM8944 Snapdragon 810 chipset. It will run on a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor alongside a Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57 chip. Users will enjoy a 32GB internal memory capacity in the handset and a 3GB RAM.

The M8's display has a relatively poor color reproduction as compared to its rivals in the market and it is anticipated that its successor comes with a more vibrant and high resolution display. The M9's super LCD3 capacitative touchscreen is protected by the thin and high damage-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The screen size is expected to remain at 5 inches diagonally, just as the M8's.

The HTC One M9 will be available in glacial silver, gunmetal gray and amber gold.
