Political drama "House of Cards" is returning next year for its fourth season, Internet streaming site Netflix confirmed this week.

According to a report by The New York Times, the official Twitter account for "House of Cards" posted a picture that read, "Season 4 coming 2016."

The picture came with a caption that says: "I will leave a legacy. #Underwood2016."

The hashtag refers to the main character of the political drama, ruthless politician Frank Underwood, played by actor Kevin Spacey. In the show, Underwood is seeking reelection as president of the United States in 2016.

Although Netflix did not state any official release date of the fourth season of "House of Cards," Time Magazine reported that the production for the new season will begin this summer.

"House of Cards" Season 4 may likely be also released in spring just like the past seasons, according to TVLine.com.

If the finale of the third season is any indication, "House of Cards" Season 4 will likely focus on the fallout of President Underwood's marriage with First Lady Claire Underwood, played by actress Robin Wright.

The next season will also most likely follow President Underwood's reelection bid, after beating former Attorney General Heather Dunbar as Democrat primaries.

Season 4 will also likely deal with the decision of President Underwood's chief of staff, Doug Stamper (played by Michael Kelly), to kill Rachel Posner, who attempted to kill him and who knows some of the President's secrets.

"House of Cards" is Netflix's highest-profile original series. Spacey won the 2015 Golden Globe award for best TV drama actor for the show, while Wright won a 2014 Golden Globe for best drama actress.
