'Frozen 2' release date, plot spoilers, rumors: Release in 2018, sequel to have unhappy ending?
A lot of "Frozen"-related projects have happened since the film's release in 2013, and it looks like there are much more to look forward to in the coming years.
Last year, Disney announced that they will be having a sequel to "Frozen" called "Frozen 2." However, there are speculations that it might not be released until 2018. This is because, after the release of the short film called "Frozen Fever" and a new song called "Making Today a Perfect Day," Disney is set to have a "Frozen" Broadway musical in 2017.
Last year, Disney tweeted an announcement saying that Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will return to "Frozen 2" as co-directors and co-writers.
Variety reported John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studio, as saying: "We enjoyed making 'Frozen Fever' so much and being back in that world with those characters. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we're taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that."
The announcement was made during Walt Disney Company's annual shareholders in San Francisco together with Disney's CEO Bob Iger and Josh Gad (voice of Olaf).
Although there's still no official announcement regarding the release date or the plot, there are a number of rumors and speculations about what's going to transpire in the sequel.
Buck said in an interview during a special screening of the Walt Disney Animation Studios Shorts Collection with MTV News last year that they're just starting.
"Jen [Lee] and I are just getting back into the story room together and throwing ideas around. We have an overall idea, a concept, which I think is a very strong one. I'm very excited about doing it," he said.
Furthermore, he revealed some details on what's going to happen in the next movie, hinting that "Frozen 2" might have an unexpected ending.
"In the movie, Elsa went through a very dramatic character arc, and in this one, she got to lighten up," he said. "We saw a bit more of her personality. So then we started thinking about what we could do with all of these characters in another film. We had a nice happy ending at the end of the first one, but what's next?"
Overall, Buck said that the movie will definitely have something to address the younger generation.
"Frozen" has gathered a domestic gross of more than $400 million. The movie also won two Academy Awards in the categories Original Song and Animated Feature.
