The highly-anticipated Android Lollipop 5.1 update.

Good news for users of the HTC One M7 Google Plus Edition: the Taiwanese manufacturer has confirmed that this smartphone will soon get the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update.

HTC's vice president of product management, Mo Versi, said via Twitter, that only the HTC One M7 Google Plus Edition will be receiving Google's latest operating system.

According to an article on Android Authority's website, Versi announced through a tweet that HTC plans to release the Android 5.1 Lollipop Update to the One M7 Google Plus Edition in "early April."

With Versi's announcement, it can be gleaned that the standard HTC One M7 will not be receiving the Android update.

The Ars Technica website explained that HTC may not be bringing the Android 5.1 Lollipop to the standard or "skinned" versions of the mobile phone because it will mean "much work" for the Taiwanese manufacturer.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop will be delivered to the HTC One M7 Google Plus Edition by HTC through Google's infrastructure.

In contrast, updating the standard HTC One M7 will require HTC to get drivers from Qualcomm and other component manufacturers, then the operating system from Google. HTC must build all these components together to get the Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Google unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop in June last year. In the latest version of the software, users can access notifications, which are now displayed within applications as top-of-the-screen banners, even when the screen is locked.

The newest version of the Android mobile operating system was also redesigned using a language called "material design."

A Business Insider report said the Android 5.0 Lollipop update requires a lot of time before it can be launched on a broad scale, and takes months before it can reach smartphones because each phone manufacturer needs to modify the software.
