Alabama policeman offers Bible-based hope to Christian officers
DOTHAN, Ala. (Christian Examiner)-- In an age when law enforcement officers face the threat of danger and at times a high degree of public scrutiny, devotional writer J. A. Davis offers Bible-based encouragement for those who act as a first line of defense to protect communities across America in the book "Spirit & Truth: 52 Encouraging Messages for America's Law Enforcement."
"I struggled with my faith when I began my career as a law enforcement officer," said Davis, who currently serves as a patrol officer with the Dothan Police Department in Alabama. "I questioned everything I ever believed, but I chose to believe above all the doubt."
Recognizing the ongoing risks taken on the job in the police force, Davis said his book is designed to encourage officers to face the real dangers and raw situations of the territory with hope. Written from his personal experience of six years of fighting crime, Davis's weekly devotionals use Scripture to provide a Christian perspective on the unique challenges members of law enforcement face daily.
"I realized life was such a fragile thing and wanted to leave a positive, lasting mark on law enforcement and society."
Davis provides 52 weekly devotionals for yearlong study with each message a call to action.
"This book is full of practical advice, relevant scripture, and weekly thoughts. It is designed for law enforcement but the principles apply to anyone," Davis said. "My goal is to reach as many as possible with this message of hope, love and inspiration."
Davis' book can be purchased on Amazon, at Barnes and Noble after April 25 and directly through his website which also features his current blog. According to the site Davis plans to release a "Spirit and Truth Law Enforcement Marriage Devotional" in the future.
