Louis Farrakhan points finger at Israeli, U.S. governments in 9/11 attacks

DETROIT (Christian Examiner) -- Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan released two videos on his Facebook page this morning suggesting the 9/11 attacks were planned and carried out by the Israeli and U.S. governments.

Two posts on Farrakhan's Facebook page: "9/11 was a false flag operation! Who was behind it?" and "Exposing 9/11 and Questioning the Official Story!" suggest conspiracy theories he has articulated throughout the years, and recorded in 2010 and 2013.

Farrakhan, who in July called for an army of 10,000 to "rise up and kill those who kill us," has led The Nation of Islam, a religious movement tracked as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, for more than four decades. The video address on killing has since been pulled from YouTube.

His #JusticeorElse campaign has called for 10,000 in Washington in October for the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March.

"We know now that the crime that they say is at the root of terrorism was not committed by Arabs or Muslims at all," said Farrakhan in the 2013 video. "What did you say Farrakhan? Over 2,300 of America's trained architects and engineers have joined in calling for a new investigation of 9/11."

In the vidoes posted on Facebook, Farrakhan relied heavily on a 2008 book by Victor Thorn and Lisa Guliani, called 9-11 Evil.

In the first video, the controversial religious leader re-iterated a frequent refrain from his speeches that Israelis had attacked the United States during 9/11 in order to spur America toward a war against Islam.

"It now appears that 9/11 was a 'false-flag operation,' which is an attack by one country but made to appear like the attack came from another in order to start a war between them," he said.

The two nearly 10-minute videos surfaced on the 14th anniversary of 9/11, as families grieve one of the deadliest attacks ever on American soil. Farrakhan told the audience that Al Qaeda couldn't have orchestrated the attacks because the fuel from airplanes wouldn't have created enough heat to melt the steal within the World Trade Center.

Instead, he suggested, the World Trade Center and the Pentagon had to be "wired with explosive charges long before September the 11th."

He then attempted to make a case for the Israeli involvement, centering it upon claims that Jewish employees at the World Trade Center got text messages warning them not to come to work the morning of 9/11. He also suggested that the World Trade Center's owner profited from the building's destruction at the hand of terrorism.

In a second video added to the site an hour later, Farrakhan claimed that the American government itself was involved in a 9/11 cover-up.

"I said, on Nov. 25, 2009, 9/11 was done by people in our own government and our own banking system to perpetuate the fear in the American people so that they might subordinate themselves so that the government may get them to do whatever they want us to do," Farrakhan said. "This was to create this endless War on Terror. But the War on Terror is a cover and a fraud for the real war, which is war against Islam."

In that second video, recorded sometime before the killing of Osama bin Ladin, Farrakhan suggested that the United States initiated 9/11 in order to benefit stockholders of United Airlines, American Airlines and the corporate tenants of the World Trade Center.

In this video he also questioned why the United States fought wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in response to the 9/11 attacks.

"What is America doing in Afghanistan?" Farrakhan said. "Trying to buy off the warlords? This is a sick people, man. You bomb them and laugh and now they're kicking your behind. Now you're trying to buy the allegiance of these people?"

In a Sept. 6 video he told an audience of both Muslims and Jews that Osama bin Ladin was a "good man."
